Just for fun, you may want to have a camera ready to take photos of the blooms, bees, bugs and squash. Starting a gardening blog or get a photo hosting account, to post your pictures of your gardening efforts and progress, can be an extra added bit of enjoyment.
Keep the squash bed as clean as possible. Keep weeds, dead leaves or any other type debris cleared from around of squash vines. Some of the garden pests love to sleep, live and breed in or under anything laying or growing on the ground. For this reason I keep dead leaves trimmed off and thrown away.
